Import Handling Departments
Most import products are delivered packaged dry, in boxes. For sale on the auction clock, the products must be made ready for sale. Mainly this means that products must undergo various procedures so that they may be traded in accordance with prevailing supply conditions. Some of these procedures are unpacking the items from the boxes, placing them in water or
pretreating in a container, trimming stems, wrapping or sealing (shut), and sometimes even complete re-grading.
For direct sales, the products are prepared according to instructions received from the buyer.
FloraHolland offers these services through its Import Handling (IH) Departments at the locations in Naaldwijk, Rijnsburg, Venlo and Eelde.
Products for Bleiswijk and Aalsmeer may be prepared for sale either through IH Naaldwijk or IH Rijnsburg. Depending on the growers’ needs, the service may take several different forms:
- Processing by the auction itself;
- Partnership among growers (groups) and the auction processing department;
- Assisting growers wishing to undertake the entire process or part of it themselves;
- Cooperating with agent/processor;
- Preparing your products through import agents instead of an Import Handling Department at the auction.
Central receiving/dock services
FloraHolland offers agents or buyers the opportunity to have their product receiving occur through the central receiving department at FloraHolland. The central receiving departments have modern facilities and are able to receive complete air pallets, and store these in refrigerated rooms until collected. By making these facilities available to third parties, they are utilized more fully and efficiently, reducing costs across the board.
Some of the central facilities are:
- Dock services, including receiving, sorting and distribution of import products;
o import dock services in Aalsmeer are further developed in that central product receiving for agents and processors is arranged
o import dock services in Rijnsburg and Naaldwijk are integrated in the Import Handling Departments
- Central unstacking facilities for air pallets and sea shipping containers (warehouse system);
- Storage and stock function (i.e. for container transport/ refrigerated storage);
- Connection to (international) chain logistics such as tracing & tracking system, logistical chain information (VIBS);
- PD-inspections
