FloraHolland Won First Price in the ‘Floating Parade’ 

 

FLORAHOLLAND (6 august 2010) - Not less than 330,000 (!) visitors gathered along the banks of the waterways in the Westland region, and watched the 13th floating parade that took place last weekend, from 30 July to 1 August. Some 60 boats, decorated with flowers, plants, vegetables, and fruits sailed along 70 kilometers of canals, at the regions neighboring the FloraHolland Naaldwijk location. The big number of watchers, +10% more than last year, illustrates the popularity of this “corso”, realized by some 400 volunteers. The theme this year was ‘strange birds’. FloraHolland ‘s boat with ‘birs of paradise’ (see picture) was awarded by the jury for the first price in the category ‘commercial participants’.

FloraHolland is involved in some more parades and festivals, planned to take place in August; all designed to please the public with flowers, and to promote the floriculture industry among the Dutch people’ and their visiting tourists. Rijnsburg Bloemencorso
The ‘Flower Parade of Rijnsburg’ is planned to march for the 65th time on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 of August through Rijnsburg and the neighboring towns in the ‘bulb strip’ around. On Sunday the 15th the display will stay for exhibition in Noordwijk. Some 250,000 visitors are expected. FloraHolland is one of the main sponsors of this traditional parade.

FloraHolland Bloemenfestival Noordwijk
The flower festival of FloraHolland will take place in the old Sint Jeroen Church in Noordwijk, during Thursday 13 August through Sunday the 15th. This flower exhibition is combined this year with a photographs show of the Royal photographer Han Schenck. The quality ranking of the flowers is the heart of this show.

Children Corso
Simultaneously, on Thursday the 12th, the traditional children’s flower parade will march in Rijnsburg. Also here FloraHolland is the main sponsor, and takes care to decorate the bicycles of the hundreds of participating children.
