FLORAHOLLAND (17 September 2010) - The floriculture industry’s ninth annual Pre Ride for the Roses brought in large amounts from the sponsors once again. The industry was able to ‘cycle in’ no less than €233,200, a result achieved in part thanks to a number of international suppliers who made their products available for the benefit auction. These were Panocal, Oserian, Equinox, Kreative, Primarosa, Sian Roses, Neha International, Nature Grown, and Malima Ecuador.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to these companies for their contributions.
The amount raised by the sponsors will be donated in its entirety to Ride for the Roses’ associated charity: the Dutch Cancer Society. On the night of Friday 3 September, approximately 200 Pre Riders mounted their racing bicycles and departed from FloraHolland and Plantion’s seven floriculture locations, making their way to Venlo. They were joined by the Import Department’s Ard Reijtenbagh, Frans Pakvis, Nitzan Mokasay and David Ruis, as well as team captain and Pre Ride organizer Peter Kortekaas. On Saturday, the cyclists had 210km to cover, and on Sunday 110km. This year, the Ride for the Roses, together with the contribution from the floriculture sector, raised a total of €825,000.
Next Year’s Ride in Aalsmeer
In September 2011, the Ride for the Roses will be held in Aalsmeer.
The Floriculture Industry Supports Ride for the Roses
The Dutch floriculture industry supported the Ride for the Roses this year with a Pre Ride for the ninth time.
On 4 September, cyclists sponsored by the industry rode from every flower auction location in the Netherlands to FloraHolland Venlo. On 5 September, Venlo was the starting point for the Ride for the Roses.
The Ride for the Roses was held for the first time in 1997 on Lance Armstrong’s initiative. This cyclist triumphed over cancer and was keen to raise money for cancer research by organizing this bicycle tour. His brainchild has been continuing annually in the Netherlands since 1998.
Last year, the floriculture industry raised more than €209,500 in the Pre Run.
